Happy Chinchai New Year (An alternate version of CNY)

Date February 28, 2007

This is a delayed post

Yesterday was the last day we had dinner with my family. It’s like a reunion dinner, with exception of few family members. We went to a restaurant called Restaurant Chin Chai (There is no proper translation for ChinChai in English but I think ‘Anything’ or ‘Simply’ is the best word for it at the moment). Did I hear any one start laughing already?

Although the dishes were not chinchai-ly made, I was wondering whether the payment for the food can be chincai or not? Soon after the dinner we went back to my uncle’s house which were steps away. One of my uncle brought fireworks and some firecrackers. It was fun looking at my cousins playing with the fireworks.

They played with one powerful firecracker which they didn’t realize or know it’s THAT powerful until it shot a powerful blast to the sky. I hope it didn’t shoot Super man down coz it’s green in color and it kinda resembles Kryptonite. The powerful crackers reminds me that I used to play some of the super powerful firecrackers when I was a young boy. I think I was braver when I was a kid. I was absolutely immune to the loud noises back then.

Now I chickened out when I hear any powerful blast. Maybe I am paranoid against suicide bombers LoL. Kesian Thye Wei’s house though It left a burn mark on his floor. I hope it’s removable. Otherwise I don’t think his mum will be too happy about it hehe. It’s a pity that firecrackers are banned in this country. No thanks to certain mofos who carelessly blast themselves with their home made meriam buluh (Bamboo Cannon).

However, I do support the ban against nuclear like firecrackers because I don’t fancy the idea of having my pee bursting out from my weeny while I do my sacred business in my jamban but I’m not too pleased that harmless firecrackers like Moon travelers were technically banished from the local market either. Kevin is right, it’s nice to have more family gatherings and it’s even nicer to groom their hidden pyro abilities.

From there onwards we can start shouting “Burn baby, burn!!”.

In Singapore, there’s a famous restaurant called No Signboard Seafood Restaurant. So famous that they have their own website, with its history, menu and promotion.

President: famous ka? I never been there before. My first time there. Everytime I pass by macam tarak orang mia. More like a restaurant for hantu hantu sekalian wahahahha. Naan damn near wei. Now kat Kota you have two new extra restaurants. One is the Hakka one, and another is the hainanese restaurant just beside that Hakkan restaurant. About the fireworks, pasal these segolongan stupid ppl who stupidly hurt themselves make firecrackers kena banned. I miss playing fireworks at Padang Pahlawan. Sigh….

Carol:- No signboard restaurant? I think funny restaurant names is a good marketing strategy. That of course has to be compensated with good food also lah haha. Got one famous Teochew restaurant in Malacca very funny/ pah pai one. They only make 8 tables maximum at a time, you have to place a reservation or else you wont get a table at all. And it’s damn super pricey. Singaporeans like to makan there.

Ohh… last time it used to be behind the condo near Stamford College. Used to frequent when I was studying there some years back. It has shifted some time ago. In Chinese, their name is ‘jin(4) cai(2)’ which simply means ‘duit masuk’. Sounds onngggg haha!

Yeah, my dad told me the meaning but it sounds hilarious in romanized characters ler lol. Food wise I think not bad lah. Not too sure about the price coz my uncle pay one :P

The hakka restaurant is freaking expensive. Well, with that kind of exterior/interior design, I also agak it’s expensive lor. I always go makan at the Hainanese restaurant. Previously they were from Jalan Tokong. Operating in a pre war house opposite an art gallery. Also opposite the butcher stall at Jalan Tokong too. I know another nice hainanese restaurant some where at Lorong Bukit China. Good food, but you have to wait very long because the chef is fooking slow although there’s only 1 table to serve.
