I am pretty obsessed with old junks lately. More specifically, his old malaysian passport for an entry to Singapore? Well, it’s not really junks but it’s more like my dad’s old belongings. But he wouldn’t dig his old stuffs without a purpose. He needs it as reference in filling up the immigration form. Yeah we are applying for passport. The last my dad did so was in 1985. As usual the passports are much older than I am.
Malaysia is often associated with the tiger emblem while Singapore is instantly associated with the lion symbol. No wonder these two nations are always preoccupied with endless bickering in the negotiation room. While Singapore’s currency has go on to become the lion of South East Asian, Malaysia’s Tiger ringgit has transform into a kitty cat. Sometimes I think it’s better that they retain the dolah $$ sign instead of changing it into RM. Sad but true.
The paper quality of the passport is so old it qualifies itself to be displayed in Immigration Department’s Passport museum (if there are any). It reminds me of Hiro’s ancient love letters to Ando. Blues passports for Singapore’s visitation is a thing in the past (somebody please tell me if this blue passport still exists). Everything is replaced with the red passports now.
Based on this mark, this passport is officially 32 years old.
See what I told you about qualifying itself to be part of the archives in the Passport museum? They should build a new museum to collect old passports. Once the building is completed, they should register this land mark as “First Passport Museum” in the Malaysian Book of Records. Hey, it’s an accolade to be ranked alongside with the longest roti canai in the world.
Don’t you think the quality of this paper reminds you of Hiro Nakamura’s scrolls?
Well at least they remind me of them. I am allergic to dust, so exhaling some of it is transforming me into Rudolph The Red Nose Rein Deer.
This is Jonathan when he was 3 years old. Found this picture in the slightly newer than the 1975 passport. Despite having his name in the passport, We never made it to Singapore in that year. It also means my brother had never stepped his foot in the Republic before.
