Frankly speaking, my first 3 days in Singapore was quite boring. Not because Singapore is boring per se, but Uncle kept bringing us to malls. I am never a big fan or much of a mall goer. Yes I do window shopping once in a while but when I am doing it at 10 malls in a row, it gets tiring. Maybe I don’t have a pussy fixed on my groin so I don’t enjoy shopping that much.
Like I said earlier, I can find malls in Malaysia too. I was expecting to see something different in Singapore. On the 3rd day I got my wish, my uncle decided to bring us for a walk. The journey begins at the Payar Lebar MRT station until we reached a quiet malay “village”.
When I say quiet, it’s really really quiet. Sometimes it gave me the spook when I stand at the corner. Maybe it’s closed. The ‘villagers’ also need to sleep one.
The wooden houses are quite nice but I prefer the ones at Kampung Morten, Malacca. They look more like an authentic Malay Village because they have actual people staying in the houses.
After mingling around the Malay Village for like 10 mins (yes 10 mins) we proceed to Joo Chiat terrace. I also spotted a nice mosque along the way. The architecture was pretty unique. I can say most of the mosques in Singapore is rather unique. I didn’t get a good photo because my family walked too fast. Hmmm, this is the only thing I don’t like about family trip. I can’t get enough time to explore the place myself.
Joo Chiat terrace felt like a mini Jonker and Jalan Besi to me. More cleaner and LOTS of KTV and pubs. Contrary to popular belief, there are actually many old buildings in Singapore. At least I can find them every where.
Yes KTVs in pre-war houses.
wOOt, bar top dancing. In Malacca, we only got bus stop dancing. We stop the bus by dancing. Okay, it’s actually idiots vandalizing the bus stops later on. There are so many of them it looked like miniature version of Geylang. Yes, I can see loads of Vietnamese girls standing outside waiting for customers.
It’s pretty convenient for them if they want to launch operation back cock down. You can do it at the back alley here. Dark and dim, it reinvents the romantic feel to a whole new level. Hotels are widely available if you find this type of romance a little too overwhelming.
Vices aside, you can still find gems like this along the way.
Hmmm this place look like a famous restaurant with a wanton wok. Things are very competitive in Singapore. Even the chef has the borrow his face to attract customers. (click on his handsome face to enlarge)
If you are an art deprived person, come here. You will get your needs fulfilled by being ‘artoholic’.
You wouldn’t want to mess with his art fetish though.
From artoholic, you can definitely become an alcoholic from visiting Beer Garden. I wonder if they plant and harvest beer trees for a living.
When I saw this church again, I just realized we have walked all the way from Paya Lebar back to Marine Drive again. Total journey was almost 2 hours.
With all this amount of walking in Singapore, I reckon they don’t even need to join any slimming program to lose their weight. Any fat malaysians like me who are so used to driving should able to shed some kilos. Fortunately most of Singapore’s landscapes are flat otherwise I am going to die from exhaustion by climbing up the hills.
See what it did to my foot? Sometimes it doesn’t felt like a vacation. It felt more like I came to Singapore for footology instead lol. No one died from inhaling the scent of my sweet foot by the way.
