medical alert bracelets

I was intrigued by the diverse selection of bracelet from this website. There are just so many of them. I think I should introduce this site to my friend because she loves bracelet. Maybe she can get some for herself since Chinese new year is fast approaching. There is one thing that bugs me though. I am wondering what does medical alert bracelets do? Does it alert people whenever there are emergencies?
