I enjoy ogling Chelsia Ng more than Ella Koon

Date February 18, 2008

Remember how I laughed my ass off when I read this article? I laughed even louder when I saw the final output of this show.

However, I never really watched a single episode until today because I am normally busy on Sunday evening. It is quite ironic since this is my first time watching and it is also the last episode after missing so many weeks. Heh, talk about excellent timing.

But I have to admit I am extremely bored so I decided to give this show a chance. I was previously turned off by their weird BM accent. Some of them speak good BM but the majority of them suck. It is so bad it appeared as if they were reciting their dialogue directly from Microsoft Powerpoint slides.

To be honest with you, I would rather watch a BM show with Malays in it because the majority of them obviously have better command in that language itself. Alright, so I gave this show a chance and I watched it. Even though the only episode I watched, it immediately struck me that this drama is a direct copy of TVB’s “Revolving Doors of Vengeance” with some MINOR changes in it.

RDOV

The similarities :- (based on the final episode I watched)

There’s an evil uncle/jiujiu/kaofu trying to bolot the tycoon’s hotel.

The evil uncle’s daughter loves tycoon’s third child.

There are 3 siblings who are constantly bickering with each other.

The first two children are constantly at war with their youngest half brother.

Tycoon hired an outsider to become the Devil’s advocate (played by Joe Ma in RDOV and Steve Yap in Tentangan) so that it will make the siblings stay united and make them stronger in order to fight the real villian who is their uncle. Both of their love interest is also a PR manager (played by Kenix Kwok and Zoee Tan respectively).

The minor changes:- (based on the final episode I watched)

Tentangan

RDOV

Among the 3 bickering siblings, one of them is a woman.

The 3 bickering siblings are guys.

The Uncle/villian/kaofu/jiujiu repented after the 3 siblings finally defeated him.

The Uncle/villian/kaofu/jiujiu did not repent, he vowed to seek revenge but he ‘accidentally’ fell from the stairs and ended up in coma.

The siblings’ father Francis Lee faked his death. Played by Chew Keng Wah

The siblings’ father Wong Yuk Ting really died. Played by Lau Dan

The actress who acted as Max Lee’s cousin (his evil uncle’s daughter) is cuter and less annoying although her BM is a little weird.

Elaine Yiu played Ron Ng’s cousin (his evil uncle’s daughter) is annoying in RDOV. Well her acting skills are atrocious anyway.

Her Tentangan counterpart is still alive and kicking. She repented by the way.

Elaine Yiu ended up paralyzed.

See? I am able to point out so much similarities by watching only one episode. The Malaysian version emphasized on moral teachings but they seem to forget one thing. If wanna copy, copy properly can or not? I am not trying to compare between this two because there’s no way this drama can even be compared with the Hong Kong one. But at least modify abit lah. the It’s like re-watching RDOV with malaysian chinese cast speaking in BM all over again.

To be fair with this drama, this is not the worst BM based local chinese series I’ve ever watched. That’s the only positive thing I can comment about them.
