The story behind Nokia’s sturdy rock 3310

Date March 25, 2008

I dropped my 3310 on the floor today. Despite being 6 years old, it still look as new as the first day I bought it. If it’s possible I won’t change it as long it is still working good. This phone gave me sweet memories. Not because you can hit any one’s head by throwing this phone as hard as you could but I also bought another 3310 for my brother together with mine. He wasn’t there with me when I bought because he was still in the hospital at that time.

It was a time he just underwent his knee transplant surgery so he had to remain in the hospital for more than 2 months. During this period, he was extremely depressed because he felt like a disabled person. Many of his favorite activities were robbed from him. He was pretty good in sports so taking away his ability to indulge in them certainly affected him a lot. He can’t even cycle after his surgery because he cannot bend his knees.

Yes, cycling is also one of his favorite activities. He told me he used to conquer Malacca with his bike and of course, he asked me not to tell mum about it hehe. He had so much fun with his bicycle. Try telling a 16 year old boy that he may not be able to cycle anymore and see how he felt. Anyway, let’s go back to the 3310 phone. I remember I delivered this phone to my brother after his surgery was successfully performed.

Since he was admitted to UMMC at that time, I can’t visit him every day in the hospital because mum asked me to take care of my youngest brother in Malacca who was still in Primary school back then and he can’t afford to skip classes anymore. So when I finally visited Jonathan after the surgery, I hand the 3310 to him. It was his first mobile phone and he was very happy that he can sms his friends while being confined to the hospital bed.
