Once upon a time, my schoolmates are so fond of making fun of bapak punya nama, specifically father’s name. On why they think bapak punya nama are so funny to be made fun of is beyond me. I don’t even think it’s remotely funny but it can be downright offensive when one goes overboard with their antics. As you know older people’s name are more well… old fashion. In the past it is possible to find unique chinese names like Chow Ah Beng.
Not because they wanted to be named like this per se but you tend to find more people who were illiterate among the older generation than the generation of late. Instead of being grateful at our literacy rate, we had the nerve to make fun of people’s name. Hence, we insult each other with our bapak punya nama in the past, and we did it rampantly during secondary school. As if bapak punya nama is the mother of all insults. Well it is more insulting if our bapak punya nama sounded like the novelty type.
Although it was dumb but it was also hilarious whenever I think of the past where we used to insult each other’s bapak punya nama. Seriously, it gets so stupid we don’t address each other by our own names, but with our bapak punya nama and the killer part was when we actually answered “yes, may I help you?â€.
