I went to watch Ip Man on the other day and I was pretty amused when one of the moviegoers said he wants to watch I.P Man (man as in human male). It wouldn’t be too amusing if that guy is a mat salleh, malay or even indian but that guy is chinese. I am amused not because he mispronounced Ip Man as I.P Man, but by calling him I.P Man makes Bruce Lee’s master sounds like a super hero of sorts.

Tell me, which part of him looks like Internet Protocol Man to you?
You know, like Batman, Superman, Bodohman etc. I.P Man…… hmmmmmm sounds like an avenger for the Internet Protocol Address. Hackers should be really careful not to incur I.P Man’s wrath otherwise he is going to pound you like a sandbag in front of your computer. Ok jokes aside, Ip Man is a great movie. Well I am saying that not because I like martial arts movie because I totally abhor Dragon Tiger Gate.
There is no gravity defying stunts nor there is 3D effects ripoff from Matrix. There is no exaggerated moves like Kungfu Hustle either which makes it a 100% authentic martial arts flick. Even the japanese guy has some good moves in him before he was pounded beyond recognition in the end.
The only not so great part is the typical chinese nationalism ala fist of fury portrayal but it was bearable. However, I was cheesed off when the cineplex did not even show the final scene where teenage Bruce Lee asks the elderly Ip Man to teach him Wing Chun. Made me wait for nothing. Tiu.
