Welcome to Malaysia, the law of two sets of law. Do you remember there was a huge orchestrated uproar when the previous Perak government announced that they are replacing their Proton Perdana V6 for Toyota Camry? The uproar was so loud they went on to accuse the then Perak Government of not being patriotic for ditching their official national cars. But the Sabahan leaders want to purchase Volvo. Where is the uproar lah?
Apparently it is very patriotic to purchase an overpriced beat up Malaysian tin cans from our local scammers. It is also very patriotic to be shortchanged. If you wanna get shortchanged, at least get shortchanged from a local fella. At least your hard earned ringgit will not end at a foreigner’s pocket. That is their logic.
They questioned the people’s patriotism when they refused to buy national cars. Yeah we are very unpatriotic not to part with our hard earned ringgit for a large milo tin with 4 wheels. It does not matter if our national cars will go bonkers before we can even finish paying our loan. By buying import cars, we are committing treason towards Proton.
Kita menderhaka terhadap EON. We would be beheaded if it was the 16th century. But then cars do not even exist back then. So I guess we will be beheaded for not choosing an inferior kereta lembu. Lest I forget, recently the Sabahan Government has decided to switch their Perdanas for Volvos, which cost twice as much than Toyota Camry but there is no uproar similar to the Perak Camry controversy.
Purchasing Volvo is very noble. It is very patriotic to purchase Volvo but it is very unpatriotic to purchase Toyota Camry.
