Old post but it is better to publish it than to let it rot in my draft section.
Animax is here, yeah finally. Am I happy? Not quite. Some might say it’s damn syok to have 24 hours of anime on tv. But the truth is, when you minus the 24 hours with reruns and repeats, you will only get less than 9 hours worth of anime.
But that’s okay since I do know even have the time for 2 hours of continuous anime screening and I am quite thankful for the repeats because I can watch them at separated hours. . There is one thing that really turns me off though. Yes, it’s dubbing. Dubbing has always been a pain in the ass for my ears, really.
The good thing is, there will be a feature that allows you to switch between the American dubbed English voice tracks and the native Japanese one in Animax but it comes with a catch. Most the anime are not equipped with subtitles. Unless if you understand Japanese, I fail to see the point in introducing the voice switching features.
Some might say “oh I don’t want to the spend time reading through every subtitles, so it’s better if they can dub the anime into a language where I can understand”. Fair enough. Coz that’s their opinion after all and every one are entitled to their own. But why do I loathe dubbed animes so much? You can read here to find out why. Here’s another reason I dislike anime in bm dubbing especially the ongoing Initial D on TV3 and sometimes I can’t help but to express my utter detest against local dubbing.

Tohai : Ello, namaku Tohai. Sila tunjuk ajar.
Ciku : Nama ku Ciku tetapi nape nama awak kedengaran macam Sohai?
Tohai : Eh bangsat, nama kamu tu pun bukannya elok sangat.
