My dog food is more expensive than RM5.80 per day ok? - Malaysiakini

There is an ongoing discussion whether Theresa Kok was fed with ‘dog food’.

After the first session on Saturday, the three-term Seputeh MP offered to write her own statement for the police.

“They gave me a laptop on Sunday and I typed out my answers to their three questions in Bahasa Malaysia,” said Kok.

The rest of her detention was uneventful, said Kok, except for one day when they gave her only boiled eggs, gravy and some cucumber for lunch and dinner.

-Malaysiakini

She said she was given boiled eggs, cucumber with kuah for her meal. Then some one questions whether dogs really boiled eggs, cucumber with kuah. Well dog food can be pretty subjective because I fed my bitches with meat (not leftovers, mind you), rice, juicy bones (bought it from a Bak Kut Teh restaurant) every day which is considered as luxury meal for the majority population of stray dogs.

I guess they are living quite a relaxing life considering all they do is eat, shit, bark and guard my house when I am away. These are stray dogs I am talking here. Sometimes I wonder whether pedigree dog owners feed their canines with T-bone steak and a bottle of wine every day? But I can tell you, my daily allocation for dog food is definitely higher than RM 5.80 anytime.

So what are they feeding in the prison? Rats? Come to think of it, I wonder if Teresa really mentioned point blank that she was fed doggie’s food. Once again, the quality of doggie’s food can be pretty subjective.

Let’s get married on this accursed month. You might get huge discount for it.

Chinese restaurants and hotels often charge exorbitant prices during auspicious month or day. They will come up with 1001 excuses to justify their lucky number price tag that involves the number 8. You will often see auspicious ‘numbers’ like RM888. But if you are a poor sod, you don’t even need 888. RM8.88 is sufficient either. My friend and I once joked that if she is going to organize her own wedding dinner, she’ll have no qualms at picking the 7th month of the Lunar calender.

7th month is supposedly the most cursed month of all because it is the month where ghosts will be released from the Hell Gate so organizing anything during this month wouldn’t be such a great idea. But seeing that our PM and DPM had asked us to change our lifestyle due to the petrol hike few months ago, perhaps this is the best opportunity for chinese to save more moolah from their wedding expenses.

But it only applies to those who are strictly not superstitious so don’t come and blame me if Chinese Casper decided to invade your bedroom while making love with your spouse. Chinese restaurants are always empty during the 7th month so I think they will give discounts to cover their losses incurred during the spooky period. Attractive price tags like RM888 might be slashed to RM444 but then again it only applies if you are not too allergic against the cursed number 4.

The best part is, booking the restaurant for your big fat day will be extremely easy plus you don’t have to fight like mad for a place just to secure an auspicious date for your wedding dinner. But I guess such rule will not be effective during a particular day in the cursed month due to the celebration of the mother of all auspicious dates in the Mat Salleh calender such as 8/8/8. The number 8 is damn bloody magical indeed since it manage to transform one cursed day into another auspicious day.

Just think of it like transforming smelly fart into the scent of Calvin Klein perfume. So if you are all for saving some ringgit, avoid 8/8/8 at all cost if you must. But wait, since the auscpicious day had passed and it’s all going back to the accursed month then there’s nothing much to worry anymore. We can change our lifestyle still.

Dining in a taoist temple. Well, literally.

I am not sure if I blog about this before. My memory is getting shitty, I can’t even remember some of the stuffs I blog before and I end up writing about the same thing. Anyway, dining within the compound of a Taoist temple was quite an interesting experience. It might be common for us but foreigners would think otherwise. Even though I drove or walked pass by this road countless of time, I have never been to this restaurant ever since I was born 27 years ago lol.

2007_0719selftaken0051

In case you didn’t know, this restaurant is part of the must-go dining places for tourists from Chinese countries (dunno if it’s true, the boss say one). But I did saw this restaurant name is listed in my friend’s Looney Planet guide book. Sometimes I can even find Caucasians enjoying their food here.

2007_0719selftaken0060

If you are the kind of person cannot stand the strong scent of burning incense, I advise you to sit in the inner part of the restaurant because it can get smoky at times until it made my eyes uncomfy. The food was nothing to shout about but the trademark dish for this restaurant is their crab dishes.

2007_0719selftaken0063

Since I was sitted at a very close proximity distance between the altar and the temple, it allowed me the opportunity to snap some photos.

Poor lobsters had to be beheaded

Finally, we have reach the interesting part of the wedding dinner. FOOD. Talking about food is always interesting anyway. But I am not implying the food is so much worth telling than the wedding ceremony itself. If there is no wedding ceremony, there won’t be food. So these two things are interconnected, both are interesting in their own right.

2007_1220selftaken0328

Looking at the lineup of what we are going to eat for the evening at the menu alone is enough to make you drool. It doesn’t help when my stomach is beating like a giant gong.

2007_1220selftaken0342

Since this is a stylish hotel, the way they serve the dishes are also stylish. When I was younger I have this evil thought. I would always fantasized of putting my legs on some conceal position so that I can trip one of the waiters who are serving the food. Don’t stone me for saying this ok? Just a mischievous thought from a mischievous ex kid.

2007_1220selftaken0343

Poor lobsters had to be beheaded for our dinner and there were 30 of them. It is such a sham that people who kill lobster do not get prosecuted under Animal Cruelty act. But who cares? They ended up in my stomach anyway.

2007_1220selftaken0344

How sweet. Not only we are having family reunion, the lobster and its little cousin prawnies are having a little reunion of its own too. There is no other better family way to get skin together with their cousins.

2007_1220selftaken0345

What’s even better, the prawnies ensured itself tasting good enough before allowing us to chew them into million of pieces.

2007_1220selftaken0346

Next, we have suckling roast pig. I am sure they are meant for chinese suckers like us because we happen to just suck every living organism that is edible from this earth. I noticed one thing about pork dishes I ate in Singapore. I can get them mostly in large pieces. Not only hotels, even pork at the food court I ate was pretty large. They cost me only 2 bucks. Harga babi in Malaysia sudah naik dan susut in size again.

2007_1220selftaken0347

Then we have this controversial dish where conservationist has been complaining about. Its fin consumption. I know its bad for the environment, but I can’t just go up to the bride and say, “i am going to boycott you! And this dish too!”. I think it’s not real by the way.

2007_1220selftaken0348

These are scallops with asparagus. It’s been ages since I had them. Based on the menu, they are made of X.O sauce. I wonder what the hell is X.O sauce. Were the scallops got stoned with alcohol before ending up on our sacrificial dinner altar? Pardon my ignorance because I only know how to eat. Maybe food experts can explain this to me.

2007_1220selftaken0381

Gamat @ Sea cucumber often made its regular appearance in Chinese wedding cuisine. My dear mushrooms got stabbed by the piercing toothpicks. I enjoyed the mushrooms more than anything else.
2007_1220selftaken0382

Sitting together at the same table with women and few seniors is definitely good for my stomach because they don’t eat much. I had to finish most of the leftovers. Heh, speaking about over indulgence.

2007_1220selftaken0374

Oh man, this got to be the best dish of the night but the people who sat in the same table with me hardly touch them. I think by this point, they are already full because the food just came in droves. Great garoupa and it taste heavenly. But I bet the price tag sounds pretty hellish for some pockets though.

2007_1220selftaken0375

2007_1220selftaken0379

I heard from my family that it cost more than S$1k for each table. I guess that’s the standard price for hotels in Orchard. There were more food actually but I did not have the time to photograph every dishes because I was busy capturing some of the shouting moments earlier on.

Huge ass talapia

I feel so ‘handsome’ after paying RM 47.70 for this.

2007_1211selftaken0041

Heh, didn’t know my makeover cost less than 50 ringgit. They must have thought my face do not need an entire overhaul like Wacko Jacko did. Anyway I am not endorsing pirated Nip/Tuck today. Had a great meal at this Handsome restaurant.

At least they tried their best to make me look handsomer than I should. I won’t blame them if they failed because my face is way beyond repair. Speaking about food, I had an awesome talapia fish. It’s been awhile since I last had a very fresh and juicy talapia fish like this. Talapia is my least favorite fish to be honest because of its ‘muddy’ scent.

But this restaurant did a great job in minimizing the smell and they manage to maintain its freshness. Not many restaurants in Malacca manage to cook it the way I like. Why do I even bother of eating them if I don’t like it? Well, my folks love talapia and I felt better by treating them something they enjoy rather than what I like.

The fish I had is pretty large by its standard and it only cost 20 bucks. I think it weighs 1 kg and above. Some places even chopped my head by charging me double the price for a substandard fish. Sorry no photos though. I was too busy enjoying my food till I totally forgotten I was suppose to ask that mutilated fish to pose for me!

Updated:- Had another round of talapia so here’s the picture.

Although this fish is not as big as the one I had earlier but it’s still good and fresh.

Orgasmic burger

The pathway I took earlier leads me to another part of the pasar malam. Damn, this pasar malam has grown larger the last time I went there. Although it is fun to visit a pasar malam, but it’s not so fun when you have to carry kilo tonnes of food around your arm alone while snapping photos.

2007_1201selftaken0082

This part is where the stalls are made of Malay and Indian traders. Maybe it is due to the halal issue. I am sure our Malay brothers wouldn’t enjoy the sight of chinese hawkers slaughtering pork in front of them. So I guess it is a good thing to keep them separated. By the time I reach this part of the pasar malam, most of the stalls have began to pack their stuffs and prepare to leave. So no pictures.

2007_1201selftaken0084

Fortunately, one of the malay stalls that sells ramlee burgers are still open. Goodness gracious, this P ramlee is so hard to find and I had to walk for extra 40 minutes to locate them. But I guess it’s inevitable since I am not familiar with this pasar malam. But I was lucky enough to find them on time because most of the stalls around that area had already pack their stuffs.

2007_1201selftaken0083

It was 40 minutes well spent because I can never leave pasar malam without buying ramlee burgers. Well actually I can buy them in town but they are more costly as I always had one while I can have 2 from pasar malam. Further more Ramlee burgers are teh best!! Heaps better than those over priced burgers masquerading in popular brand names like Burger King and McD.

2007_1201selftaken0086

Hey I like Ramlee. I will not tolerate any fanboism for BK and Mc Dungu in my comment box and I assure you they will be purge immediately. Saya pantang dicabar! Whoops, I’m sorry for sounding like that ‘Father of Rallies’. I was a bit disappointed that their beef went out of stock so I had to settle for chicken instead.

With RM 1.30 for one, I can easily buy 5 of them at one go but I have other food to chow upon and I do not want die from over nutrition so I had to settle for two burgers instead. While I was looking at how the makcik prepare the burgers, I had to refrain from salivating.

2007_1201selftaken0087

I almost went berserk after getting aromatherapy from the fragrant burgers. Unhealthy I know. But life is short and something out there is going to kill you anyway. So it’s better to enjoy what the world has to offer before it comes to an end.

Eating portuguese tarts is an orgasmic experience. It just melted the moment I place the tarts inside my mouth. I felt like I’m walking in heaven after munching the remaining pieces. Maybe I’ll buy more tomorrow. But there is a catch as it is quite a distance away from my place. Oh well, we gotta sacrifice a little if we are going to enjoy good food. If the stock is enough, I am soooo going to buy 10 of them.
